This is going to be on some areas of my own interest.
First, let me share a few thought about this "English in the Media" sub-specialty. As far as I can get a grasp of the overall content of the courses that I've managed to take and complete so far, it seems that the electronic media is given a fairly distinguished place amongst other types of media. It might be considered interesting.
Let's see examples for this claim. What comes to mind first is of course this course. No question about it. Secondly, there is this "Electronic Media: Blogs and Blogging" course with Frank Prescott. Then, on "Media and Advertising," again we seem to be giving a great deal of focus to the Internet (at least it's my impression from our last class). --- I'm not mentioning it as though it were out of place, no; I think it's quite right that the Web gets this much attention. After all, it seems to be growing into the most often used source of information and also probably the most important medium. --- But where was I; yes, the course "Fact-Based Journalism," too, relies heavily on online material to be discussed. Again, it's not that it weren't right; I only mean it's interesting to notice this thing or trend or tendency.
Second, I think I will advertise two of my favorite videos loosely relating to the media in general. They're by Taylor Mali, an American travel performance poet. You may find out why I think they relate to the media.
On what teacher's make: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxsOVK4syxU&feature=related
And another on something like, you know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCNIBV87wV4&feature=related
Third and last, I think I should also advertise our Workshop on our online journal for DEAL. We act like an editorial board. It might be interesting to take a look at: http://mediamuhely.blogspot.com/
Bye for now.

The second thing you talk about is very ineteresting to me...I know it is a shame in many ways, but I don't know what other classes you have within this specialisation. Can this be checked anywhere? It would be nice to harmonise the tasks within your courses (of course!) so that you don't have to do the same thing several times.
ReplyDeleteThis online journal idea sounds really exciting. Are all of you, I mean all our group involved in that?
No more questions, sorry
